Stamford, CT - In late September, the Stamford Museum & Nature Center welcomed internationally recognized Swedish artist, Nathalia Edenmont, for the opening reception of her solo exhibition, “Fruitfulness.” Organized by the Flint Institute of Arts of Michigan and the Nancy Hoffman Gallery of New York City, “Fruitfulness” features twenty arresting photographs created over the last twelve years.

“Fruitfulness” will be on view in the Stamford Museum’s Bendel Galleries through November 3, 2019. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. The final weekend of the exhibition coincides with SM&NC’s annual Harvest Festival.
“Nathalia fearlessly reawakens memories from her past through her compositions; in fact she views these pieces as her children and legacy.” said Jillian Casey, Curator of Collections & Exhibitions for the Stamford Museum & Nature Center. “Her striking images snare us with their honesty and beauty. Experiencing her work in person creates a powerful moment that’s not easily forgotten.”

Edenmont creates elaborate compositions of wistful women wearing garments constructed from unconventional, often organic, materials, with each piece taking up to 18 hours to create.
The artist says her repository of images comes from her dreams, her past works, art history, contemporary culture, and “the DNA code” she uses to build her powerful lexicon of life and loss. “I only look inside my head; what I see in my mind is what I create," said Edenmont. "I do not sketch; the image is complete and sharp within me. I have absolute control over all aspects of what I do.”

And as well, throughout the musical year, I look forward to previewing the broad mix of great works both old and new that we will present over the course of our series, cherished masterpieces as well as thrilling new discoveries, including large scale works that have been absent from the orchestra’s programming for too long. I cannot wait to further my connections with all the musicians of the Stamford Symphony and the audience in a community in a place that I too, call home”
