Charleston, SC - BMC Barry Natale of Norwalk, CT was recently awarded the Army Achievement Medal from the 841st Transportation Battalion in Charleston, SC. Natale, 57, is on active duty orders and is serving as the Training Chief of a 70-member unit assigned to U.S. Coast Guard Station Charleston Military Outload (MOL) Division. Station Charleston's MOL is responsible for providing waterborne security for more than 2.5 million square feet of sensitive cargo that transits Charleston Harbor annually.
The MOL crew is comprised entirely of reservists recalled to active duty in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom.
In 2010, Chief Natale previously received the Army Commendation Medal for his service in Iraq with the USCG Redeployment and Inspection Detachment (RAID X). The mission of USCG Raid X contributed to the success of the US Army 840th Transportation Battalion's mission.
This is Chief Natale's 5th deployment since 2001. He is a former member of USCG Station Eaton's Neck and Auxiliary Flotilla 72 in Norwalk. Prior to being deployed, Natale operated the Sheffield Island Ferry and also worked aboard The Maritime Aquarium's Research Vessel Oceanic.
Chief Natale will be released from active duty on September 30, 2013. He looks forward to returning to Norwalk soon after demobilization and then retiring with 30 years of service in January.

Chief Natale's devotion to duty and outstanding performance was essential to the success of the 841st Transportation Battalion's mission. His actions reflect great credit upon himself, the 841st Transportation Battalion, and the United States Army.
