"We have developed a medically based retail component for the convenience of our patients," he added. "Our patients can now can avail themselves of products upon discharge or we can deliver to their rooms while they are in the hospital." The ribbon-cutting and grand opening for the new Health Emporium of Norwalk Hospital, conveniently located in the main lobby area of the hospital, was held on Wednesday, June 11th with Geoffrey Cole, president and CEO of Norwalk Hospital.

This attractive new retail area, comprising 1,800 square feet of space, features a café, Cappuccino's & More, serving high quality coffee, espresso, lattes. The café will serve breakfast and lunch all day, including sandwiches, fresh salads, wraps, Tex-Mex, soups, chili, chowder and beverages.

The Health Emporium also offers a wide-variety of very practical items as well as unique gifts for customers.

"One of the great benefits is that it allows our patients and their families to purchase physician recommended products at the best prices available," said Paul Mortensen, director of retail for Norwalk Hospital.

"We've consulted our physicians to ensure that we provide the best products for our patients. Our goal is to satisfy our patients and make life as easy as possible for them," he added. To that end, the Health Emporium carries orthopaedic products such as compression hosiery and socks, knee, elbow and spine supports, and braces, canes and walkers, and many other items.

The Health Emporium also has items that are helpful to cancer patients such as special creams for those who are receiving chemotherapy, turbans and head wear.

Also available are popular mother and baby products such as breast feeding accessories, Boppy pillows, baby slings and infant safety products. "For their convenience, patients being discharged from the hospital can now purchase health supplies right here," he continued.

"We have many natural products such as body creams, herbal teas and aroma therapy," Toni Petrucci, retail manager, said. She also said that they carry an assortment of magazines, newspapers and educational books, novels and audio books. "We have yoga mats, relaxation CDs and DVDs," she added.

The hospital's retail pharmacy, SWC Pharmacy, is adjacent to the Health Emporium, for the convenience of customers.

The Health Emporium hours of operation are from 7:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday through Saturday and from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. on Sunday.

"The services we are offering through the Health Emporium are a direct result of listening to our patients, families and employees," said John Pierro, senior vice president and chief operating officer of Norwalk Hospital. "We are grateful for the excellent suggestions and look forward to celebrating the grand opening with our community," he added.
