Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) Vice Chairman John Betkoski III, has been named to leadership positions with two organizations focused on utility regulatory issues.
Betkoski was named President of the New England Conference of Public Utilities Commissioners (NECPUC) and to the Executive Committee of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC).
NECPUC, established in 1947, provides regional regulatory assistance on matters of common concern to the six New England States. It addresses issues regarding electric, gas, telecommunications and public drinking water public service companies.
NARUC, which was founded in 1889, represents utility regulatory authorities in all 50 states as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. NARUC represents the interests of state public utility commissioners before the three branches of the federal government.
The NARUC Executive Committee provides general organizational and budgetary oversight of the Association. It consists of the Association’s chief officers—President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, and Past President—and additional members to ensure that each NARUC region is represented.
Betkoski was appointed by NARUC President David Wright of South Carolina to represent the New England states. He has been active on several NARUC committees since 2000.
NARUC President Wright said, “I am honored to appoint Jack Betkoski to the Executive Committee, where we will all benefit from his service. He is a constant champion for consumers and improved utility regulation and I am thankful for his continued service.”
