Southport, CT - Each year, the Pequot Library Summer Book Sale entices 10,000 bibliophiles from across the region and beyond to Southport Village for one of the biggest and "best" book sales in New England. The sale, now in its 59th year, runs from July 26-30, 2019, offering special pricing options on each day. Adding to the grandeur of this print-and-bound treasure hunt is the early release of the Book Sale Specials.
Print enthusiasts can go online now to preview over 350 curated selections that will be for sale, and another 12 selections available through silent auction. Titles come from all 60 categories of books featured in the Summer Book Sale, and include rare finds from Examen historico-criticum codicum Indicorum, an 18th century catalogue of Sanskrit manuscripts ($200), to Sketches by Mark Twain (1875, $125) and The Hobbit (1966, $50). Silent Auction items include gems like a signed edition of The Giver by Lois Lowry, and the Apollo 11: Flight to the Moon LP, with recorded tales from the famed space crew.
The Summer Book Sale is made possible only with the help of 25+ volunteers who work year round collecting and organizing incoming donations, the Book Sale Specials are then screened and approved for public sale. “We see so many treasured items come through our Book Sale donations,” said Stephanie Coakley, Executive Director. “It is exciting to see these much loved and, in some cases, invaluable books finding new life in new homes. We’re also excited to be able to move to an online format for the first time this year. Leveraging GiveSmart as a platform for the Book Sale Specials gives the opportunity for everyone to access these select items.”
All 350+ titles are available to view online, but those who wish to see editions in person can come to Pequot Library July 16-17, where Special Sale items will be available upon request. The online sale opens to bidding and purchases at 10:00 a.m. on July 18, 2019.
