State Representative Chris Perone (D-Norwalk) will begin his fifth term at the State Capitol with a new role as the House chair of the Commerce Committee. His appointment was announced by Speaker-elect Brendan Sharkey. Rep. Perone has previously served as a Deputy Majority Leader during the last two legislative sessions. The new session begins on January 9, 2013.
"Let me express my sincere gratitude to Speaker-elect Sharkey for this appointment. I look forward to continuing to initiate pro-business, job-creating legislation to spur our economy. It will remain my number one priority,” said Rep. Perone.
He added, "For Connecticut to be successful in the long run, a blueprint for our states’ economy must include, and continue to build upon, three key concepts: productivity, competition and innovation. How we do that will be the focus of the Commerce Committee in the upcoming session. We need to create an economy that not only puts people back to work but will keep them and the companies they work for, prosperous for years to come."
The Commerce Committee has cognizance of all matters relating to the Department of Economic and Community Development, the Connecticut Development Authority and Connecticut Innovations, Incorporated.
Rep. Perone has been recognized by the National Coalition for Capital as a “Champion of Small Business" and has also been appointed to serve on the Energy and Technology Committee.
Representative Perone serves the 137 District, Norwalk.
