Powerful storm hits Southern Connecticut

Heavy storm hit the Tri-state area Saturday night and early Sunday morning, severely damaging power lines, homes, businesses, and other property in Fairfield County. Stamford, Norwalk, Darien and Greenwich recorded fallen trees and debris from the heavy winds.

Weather reports showed gusts of up to 70 mph for the area and a lot of people were left without electricity.

Connecticut Light and Power records show more than 40,000 customers who experienced outages throughout Fairfield County alone and more than 80,000 for the whole state.

According to media reports, at least 3 people were killed due to the storm. Some customers in the Fairfield County said that Connecticut Light & Power gave a restoration estimate time for the electricity service until Tuesday.

Darien public schools are officially closed on Monday, March 15. Residents from Westport, New Canaan, and Bridgeport were also affected by the storm and experienced property damages. In Stamford, the police department could not give specific estimates on the severity of the damages for the city and the number of incidents recorded.

Rain and windy weather is expected to continue on and off until Monday.
