This is the first year that Public Campaign Financing is available and candidates are preparing for the August 12th primary. There will be nineteen primary races this Tuesday with 40 candidates involved in races across the state - thirty-four candidates have received primary grants from the Citizens’ Election Program. As of August 6th, there are 52 Senate candidates participating in the Program: 29 Democrat, 22 Republican and 1 Working Families, and there are 178 House candidates: 105 Democrat, 71 Republican, 1 Working Families and 1 Independent. 11 candidates who have opted to not participate in the Program. The deadline for a candidate to opt “in” or “out” is Thursday, September 25th. To date, 18 candidates for State Senator and 73 candidates for State Representative have been awarded public grants during the three month period following the close of party conventions and caucuses. Nine Commission meetings remain between now and October 10th 2008; which, is the application deadline to receive a grant from the Citizens’ Election Program. © Copyright by StamfordPlus.com.
