Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are visiting retail establishments , conducting recall effectiveness checks, in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Action Baby Carriers,” manufactured in the United States by Optave Inc., of Alpena, Michigan. The “Action Baby Carriers” were sold nationwide in specialty retail stores and on various internet sites from May 2008 through June 2008, for approximately $80.00 to $90.00.

The baby carriers were sold under the brand name of “Action Baby Carrier” and were produced in a variety of colors and patterns such as: green, brown, blue, “spring breeze”, “the larrisa”, and the “so square”.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr., urged consumers to check their baby carriers for this product and if found, cease using this product immediately in the position which requires use of the chest strap and contact the manufacturer to receive a free strap replacement. The chest strap on the “Action Baby Carrier” can detach, posing a fall hazard to the baby. For additional information or for instructions on receiving the free strap replacement, , consumers should contact Optave Inc., toll free at (866) 208-0269, Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, ET, or visit their website at: www.actionbabycarriers.com .

Although no injuries have been reported, incidents of strap detachment have occurred, creating the potential for injury.
