FARMINGTON, CT - Do you know someone who has performed an extraordinary act of courage to save someone's life? Or maybe you know someone who commits countless hours to a special cause?
The Red Cross wants to help you honor and celebrate these individuals at one of its annual Community Heroes Breakfast Celebrations. Each year, the Red Cross joins with people in communities across Connecticut to recognize and honor the people who make service above and beyond the call of duty part of their everyday routine.
Nominate your Community Hero for deeds that occurred between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011. Nomination forms must be received by December 31, 2011 to be considered. The nominee must live or work in, or the event must occur in, Connecticut. Nominations may be made for both living and posthumous Heroes. Details about the Heroes Breakfast Celebrations and nomination forms are available at the Red Cross website, www.ctredcross.org/heroes.
“Every day, Red Cross volunteers are involved with helping disaster victims or people who risk their lives for others and with people who learn through our health and safety training how to save lives,” said American Red Cross Connecticut and Rhode Island Region spokesman Paul Shipman. “Many of these people are unsung heroes. Community Heroes of Connecticut gives us an opportunity to honor our neighbors who do extraordinary things every day.”
Shipman said there will be five Heroes Breakfast Celebrations in March and April so that nominees may be recognized in communities close to home. He said that there will be events in Danbury, Plantsville (Southington), Groton, Trumbull and New Haven. More information is available by contacting Lyn Fine-McCarthy at (860) 770-7331 or sending her an email at Lyn.McCarthy@ctredcross.org. Auger said event dates, a nomination form and other information is also available on the website.
