State Representative Dan Fox (D-Stamford) recently helped the American Red Cross kick off their “Holiday Mail for Heroes” program with a card signing event encouraging Americans to support military members, veterans and their families this holiday season.
Sponsored by Pitney Bowes, Inc. in Stamford, the program allows people the opportunity to send holiday greetings to our men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, veterans and their families. The public can send a “touch from home” through holiday cards that contain messages of cheer and appreciation. The program has collected and sent over 3.5 million cards since 2007.
“Thousands of service members will find themselves away from home this holiday season, in need of some emotional and spiritual support,” said Rep. Fox. “It is an honor to be part of the Holiday Mail for Heroes program and I hope that this program provides a sense of comfort and joy to the remarkable men and women who so bravely serve our nation.”
The Red Cross hosted Stamford residents and workers at its local headquarters for the day of card signing in support of the holiday program. After the public signs and sends the cards, Pitney Bowes receives them at the special Holiday mail post office box. Red Cross volunteers then sort and deliver the cards during the holiday season.
