STAMFORD, CT - Today State Senator Carlo Leone (D-Stamford, Darien) welcomed news that NBC Sports will be relocating to Stamford, bringing approximately 450 new jobs to the city.

“NBC’s decision to expand and continue to invest in Stamford is bringing to realization a legitimate film and entertainment industry in Connecticut,” said Senator Leone. “NBC is a valued employer, a good neighbor and an involved community sponsor. We hope they become a longstanding member of our community, much the way Clairol was before them. Our goal has always been to create new jobs and add business diversity to Stamford. Having NBC reside in our city accomplishes both."

Senator Leone joined Governor Dannel P. Malloy and executives of NBC Sports at an official announcement in Stamford this morning. The network will become the fourth company to benefit from the state’s “First Five” program, with $20 million in tax breaks to assist their relocation effort.

Today’s announcement marks the latest addition to a growing sports and entertainment industry in Stamford. NBC already produces the Jerry Springer and Maury Povich shows at the Rich Forum Theater on Atlantic Street. The city is also home to the YES sports network and A&E Television.

NBC Sports will take up residence on the 32 acre campus of the former Clairol site on Blachley Road, which will also house the new Chelsea Piers Connecticut sports emporium, currently under construction.

The executive operations of NBC Sports will be housed at the new Stamford offices, in addition to their productions of the National Hockey League and the Olympic Games. The network expects to be up and running at the new site within 11 months.
