Shoelace & necklace charms should be recalled, due to lead hazard

Product Safety Inspectors from the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection are conducting recall effectiveness checks on retail establishments in response to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s voluntary recall of “Children’s Charm Craft Kits” due to high levels of lead. This product was manufactured in China and imported by Action Products International Inc. of Ocala, Florida.

The recalled craft kits contain beads, wires, charms and clasps to assemble necklaces, charms or jewelry accessories that may be hooked onto backpacks, shoelaces, or zipper pulls. The recalled item numbers, located on the back of the package, are: “Super Dooper Charms” Item # 63403 and “Shoelace Charms” Item # 67310. These products were sold nationwide at a variety of retail establishments from July 2007 to April 2008. “Super Dooper Charms” sold for approximately $17.00 and the “Shoelace Charm Kit” sold for approximately $6.00.

Consumer Protection Commissioner Jerry Farrell, Jr. strongly recommends that parents check their children’s jewelry for any of these products and if found, immediately remove from their possession and contact Action Products International to receive instructions on returning it for a free replacement.
