South Norwalk Columbiettes Donate to STAR's Residential Program

Norwalk, CT - Kay Tortorella, President of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary #1253 Columbiettes of South Norwalk presented a check for $400 to Peter Saverine, Director of Philanthropy of STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way at the Laurel Club in Norwalk on Tuesday night, June 11, 2014.

The donation was made to benefit STAR’s Residential Programs, which include 10 group homes in Norwalk, Westport, Weston, Darien and New Canaan and 8 shared condominium/apartment dwellings in Wilton and Norwalk. The program also provides at-home supports and services to independent individuals with developmental disabilities throughout Mid-Fairfield County.

Katie Banzhaf, Executive Director of STAR said, “We are very grateful for the loyalty and support of the Columbiettes of the South Norwalk Knights of Columbus Auxiliary #1253. They are a wonderful group of women who dedicate their heartfelt efforts throughout the year to make a difference in the lives of others in our community. STAR will use their generous gift to enhance our successful residential program.”

STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization serving individuals of all ages who have intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as providing support services to their families. They create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy.
