STAMFORD, CT - Two players with the Stamford Youth Soccer League’s (SYSL) Stamford Football Club U12 Boys Elite team have been selected to train with the UK’s Tottenham Hotspur Football Club in its player development program in London, April 7 to 14, 2017. Stamford FC players, Darsein Gabriel (#12) and Arian Recinos (#20), were identified by Hotspurs coaches based on their display of technical ability, leadership and overall attitude during the Tottenham America Trophy Tournament on December 2-3, in Ellicott City, Maryland. Both Gabriel and Recinos also received the “Man of the Match.”
Gabriel and Recinos, both age 12, have played soccer since ages three and four, respectively, and both have played with the SYSL travel teams since 2013-2014. Residents of Stamford, Gabriel attends Cloonan Middle School, and Recinos attends Scofield Magnet Middle School.
The five-day Hotspurs Development Program includes daily coaching led by academy-trained staff, group seminars and presentations, opportunities to watch the Hotspur’s First Team train, to be a ball boy and/or to attend a match, and tours of White Hart Lane and Wembley Stadiums. All expenses are paid by the Hotspurs except for airfare, which is being paid through a scholarship from the Stamford-based Kick It For Keith Foundation.
The Stamford FC Boys U12 team, comprised exclusively of players who live in Stamford, recently went undefeated in the Manhattan Soccer Club Kick-Off Classic 2017 held March 3-5, 2017, defeating three premier teams, including the #1 ranked Boys U12 CT team, with a final score of 4-2. The Team is now ranked #2 in the State.
The Stamford FC Boys U12 Team is comprised of 13 players, most of whom played together on a U11 travel team in the 2014-2015 season, were undefeated (9-1-0), and went on to win the Connecticut Cup in November 2015 from among a field of 80 teams. The Connecticut Cup is a state-wide competition in which travel teams from around the state in the same age group compete against one another. The Team ended its spring and fall 2016 seasons undefeated. In 2015-2016, the team advanced to Premier status under the auspices of the Stamford Football Club, a program run by SYSL. A majority of the players on the Stamford FC U12 Boys Team have played together since U9, with their Head Coach, Jason Segovia, of Quality Touch Soccer Academy, which provides exclusive professional training to the SYSL.
Since 2015, under the coaching of QTSA, SYSL has developed four elite boys teams (U12, U14, U18, U20), and two premier boys teams (U13, U18). In addition, there are 29 professionally coached, boys and girls travel teams from U8 through U20. There are approximately 2,000 boys and girls who participate in house leagues for beginners and on developmental, travel, premier and elite teams.
