Stamford, CT - The Stamford Land Conservation Trust (“SLCT”) announces acquisition of its 55th nature preserve, located on Wallenberg Drive in North Stamford. This new preserve provides valuable wooded habitat for wildlife, including a seasonal vernal pool. Seasonal wetlands provide valuable and irreplaceable habitat for a wide variety of amphibians in a relatively predator free setting. The Wallenberg Drive acquisition not only preserves open space threatened by development, it is nearly contiguous to the Trust’s existing Birch Meadow Preserve and provides a growing ecosystem critical for many species.
Of historical significance, this property was the subject of landmark litigation that helped define legal protections for vernal pools in Connecticut.

SLCT President Harry Day remarked “The Stamford Land Conservation Trust thanks the Isaac family for their generous donation of this preserve. Placing the acreage under SLCT stewardship ensures the people and wildlife of Stamford will enjoy the benefits of this storied property in perpetuity.”
