Stamford, CT - Mayor Michael A. Pavia announced Thursday the City of Stamford has contracted with Emergency Communications Network to license its CodeRED high-speed notification system called, Stamford Alert.
Stamford Alert provides Stamford officials the ability to quickly deliver alert messages via text, phone and/or email, to specific areas or the entire City. The City will conduct its first community-wide test call on Monday, February 13, 2012, in the evening.
The CodeRED alert system allows individuals and businesses the ability to add and update their own contact information, which is password protected, directly into the system's database. “All individuals and businesses should register,” said Mayor Michael Pavia. “Whether you work in Stamford or live in Stamford, we encourage you to register your contact information with CodeRED.”
Ted Jankowski, Director of Public Safety, Health and Welfare, cautioned that this emergency alert system will be only as effective as the information provided by individuals. "If your contact information is not in the CodeRED database, you will not receive an alert message," he stated. Additionally, residents who, in the past, have registered to receive emergency notifications from the City of Stamford should update their contact information to ensure that it is included in the current database.
The Stamford Alert system also features geographically-based delivery, which allows alert information to be delivered to a specific area or neighborhood affected by the emergency. Complete street address information is required when registering. “To ensure emergency notification alerts are received by the proper individuals in any given situation, there must be an associated street address to provide geographically-specific messages." Jankowski explained.
To register, log onto the City of Stamford website, www.cityofstamford.org, and follow the link to the "Stamford Alert” Community Notification Enrollment page. Registration questions may be directed to Citizen Services at 203-977-4140.
