Step into the past at the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum

As you’re planning your summer, why not include a fun-filled week of history brought to life at the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum in historic Wethersfield, Conn.? With the Webb-Deane-Stevens Summer Sampler program, children find out what it was like to be a child during colonial times by exploring life as it was enjoyed through crafts, games, stories and a variety of fun activities.

The program will take place from July 13 through July 17 from 9:30 a.m. -12:00 p.m. The program is open to children entering grades 1-5. Cost per day is $15.00 for non-members and $12.00 for members. Cost per week is $70.00 for non-members and $55.00 for museum members. Full payment is due at the time of registration.

Monday July 13th- It’s All Fun and Games
There was a lot of work to do during colonial times but there was still time left to play. Visit the Webb-Deane-Stevens toy display, make a whirligig, play colonial games and try out colonial toys

Tuesday July 14th- How Does Your Garden Grow?
Visit the wonderful Webb-Deane-Stevens Colonial Revival Garden and create your own watercolor painting. You will also plant your own seeds.

Wednesday July 15th- The Fabric of Our Life
Weave on a loom made of plastic straws and learn about dying cloth during colonial times while making your own tie dye t-shirt.
(Please bring a white shirt and wear old clothes for this class)

Thursday July 16th- All the “Write Stuff”
Try your hand at writing with quill pens, design secret codes and learn the art of paper quilling.

Friday July 17th- A Soldier’s Life
Find out what life was like for soldiers during the Revolutionary War including what
they wore, what they ate, and how they spent their time.

Enrollment in the museum’s summer programs is limited to a maximum of 20 children. The Webb-Deane-Stevens reserves the right to cancel scheduled programs due to low registration and/or conditions beyond our control.

About the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum
Located in the heart of Connecticut’s largest historic district, the museum, which consists of three authentically restored 18th-century homes, brings Wethersfield’s rich history to life, from the American Revolution to the early 20th century. The museum includes the 1752 Joseph Webb House, which served as George Washington’s Revolutionary War headquarters in May 1781, the circa 1770 Silas Deane House, built for America’s first Revolutionary War diplomat to France; and the 1789 Isaac Stevens House, which depicts life in the 18th and 19th centuries through original family objects and includes a new children’s toy display.

The Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum, located at 211 Main St., Wethersfield, is open daily – with the exception of Tuesday – from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sundays, 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. May through October; and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m., April and November.
