BERLIN, CT - "What Would We Be Without CL&P?" Students at The Sherman School in Sherman answered that question well enough to receive a $3,500 grant, and first-place honors in Connecticut Light & Power's (CL&P) Youth Video Contest.

Middle school students (grades 6 - 8) were asked to demonstrate the importance of safe, reliable energy to Connecticut, our communities and our daily lives through an original, entertaining video of 90 seconds in length or less.

Second place and a $1,000 grant went to New Haven's Mauro-Sheridan Interdistrict Magnet School for Science, Technology and Communications for their video entitled "Light and Power." Cromwell Middle School's entry "Panels for Power" took third place and the school will receive a $500 grant.

"Congratulations to the winners and all of those who submitted videos," said Jim Muntz, president and chief operating officer of CL&P. "Everyone did a great job communicating in some very interesting and creative ways how vital electricity is. The judges had some tough choices to make."

You can see all of the entries by visiting http://www.youtube.com/user/CLPVideoContest.

CL&P is also reminding high schools in its service territory that time is running out to complete entries for CL&P's Live Green -Win Green contest.
