Next week tickets go on sale for two great summer concert series at the Ridgefield Playhouse. For fans of bands like Yonder Mountain String Band (June 11), America (June 12), Indigo Girls (July 10), and Bruce Hornsby (August 13), as well as comedians such as Gallagher (July 11) and Paula Poundstone (July 19), The Ridgefield Playhouse will be the summertime place to be. This summer, however, The Playhouse is adding another layer to its
concert series by teaming up with Premier concerts to present some larger acts at the Ives Concert Park. The Ives series will house acts like Melissa Etheridge (June 29), Lyle Lovett (July 1), The Beach Boys (July 3), Moe (July 6), Frankie Valli (July 10) and Ani DiFranco (July 15) among others.

The Ives was planning on booking their cultural events at the outdoor venue but had no plans to present some of the larger musical artists as they had in the past, so The Ridgefield Playhouse felt it was a great opportunity to book some larger acts that are just too expensive for the intimate 500 seat venue. "The Ives can hold about 1700 seated and practically another 2000 people on the lawn if need be," says Allison Stockel, executive director of The Ridgefield Playhouse. "So for us, it's a great opportunity to get some of those acts that patrons and members have been asking us to get, like the Beach Boys-what a perfect summer concert." The Ives, which is a not-for-profit outdoor venue located in Danbury on the WestConn campus, typically does rent out their facility. After some financial trouble, it was taken over by the city of Danbury and welcomes the additional acts that are being booked by The Ridgefield Playhouse and Premier Concerts. "It's a great way to keep their members and sponsors happy by being able to offer a viable season," says Ms. Stockel, "and it's also a great way to offer our members and sponsors more than what they would normally get in a summer. It's a win win situation for everyone."

For tickets and further information about The Playhouse's summer season, call the box office at 203-438-5795; Playhouse tickets may also be purchased online at www.ridgefieldplayhouse.org. The Playhouse is located at 80 East Ridge, parallel to Main Street.
