Visual Concepts Media received Graphic Design USA Magazine’s ‘American In-House Design’ Award in the category of Internet/Intranet Design. The award recognizes Visual Concepts for the Windsor, Connecticut firm’s design of the consumer web site for Spalding Sports, a division of Russell Corporation. The site is viewable at www.spalding.com. Graphic Design USA is a monthly news and information magazine for and about the professional graphic design community including graphic design firms, corporate and publishing in-house departments, advertising agencies, institutions and non-profits, and other creative businesses and organizations. Visual Concepts, which specializes in business consulting, television production, web, and interactive design, created the award winning site for Spalding to help the world’s leading basketball maker promote its new team of professional endorsees, while also revealing the company’s new tagline and brand initiative, “True to the Game.” The site features vignettes of professional athletes like NBA players Gilbert Arenas and Greg Oden, the NFL’s Vince Young, and three time Olympic volleyball gold medalist Karch Kiraly, in addition to an array of collegiate coaches. Visual Concepts developed a “street-style” design for the site which also encompassed Spalding’s vision of illustrating how “True” athletes have the desire to compete and perform no matter what their situation; whether they are compensated athletes in the admired professional arena, or ordinary basketball fans playing in pick-up games. Spalding’s new initiative conveyed that all athletes, despite their playing level or talent, share a common ground in their desire to keep playing the game they love. “While we are tremendously honored by this national recognition, we take even more pride in the results the site has generated for our client,” said Visual Concepts Chief Operating Officer Ric Serrenho. “Within a month of its launch, Spalding site traffic had increased by more than 100%.” The Visual Concepts team was also recently honored with a Gold ADDY Award for the Spalding site in the category of Interactive Media.
