Westport Arts Center/Writers Artists Collaborative seek memoirs by Sept. 7
The Westport Arts Center, in partnership with Ina Chadwick's MouseMuse Productions, is seeking well-crafted memoirs of up to 1500 words for its upcoming writing competition. The deadline for submissions is September 7, 2010. Under Chadwick’s MouseMuse Productions, the newly formed “Writers Artists Collaborative” will further advance WAC’s mission as a multi-disciplinary arts organization committed to integrating the literary and visual arts within its regular programming. Building on the success of two previous writing initiatives with Chadwick, this program will rely on visual arts exhibitions as a starting point for literary exploration.

“In the upcoming Westport Arts Center exhibition, ‘Memory,’ we will explore the importance and fragility of memory, and assert that documenting one’s own experiences is a valuable practice that will have significant influence on future generations,” said Helen Klisser During, WAC Director of Visual Arts. “From the idea that a storyteller exists in all of us, we will encourage writers to document their own personal stories in this contest.”

The writing contest will culminate with professional actors reading the winning works at a festive reception and award ceremony in the WAC gallery on Sunday, October 17, 2010.

Additionally, the writers who submitted the three winning entries will receive $175 each from the Writer’s Endowment, sponsored by eChook Digital Publishing, and have the opportunity to have their work published in Weston Magazine and read on live radio.

College students may also enter to win $75 from Writer's Artist Collaborative “Writers of Promise” endowment. Writers can find entry guidelines, the entry form, and more details on the Westport Arts Center’s website, www.westportartscenter.org.

Multiple entries per applicant are accepted, with an administrative fee of $25 per entry ($20 for WAC members). Writers must be Connecticut residents or out-of-state WAC members. Individual memberships start at $45 and anyone can become a WAC member by the entry deadline of September 7.
