WESTPORT, CT - Catamount Wealth Management proudly partners with Westport Public Library in celebration of Financial Literacy Month to host an evening of Women and Finance. The evening will feature Mahnaz Mahdavi, distinguished Smith College Professor of Economics and the Ann F. Kaplan '67 Director of the Smith College Center for Women and Financial Independence who will speak on the need for improvement in women’s financial knowledge.

Dr. Mahdavi will share her research based on a comprehensive study she conducted on the state of financial literacy of educated women. There is a gap that exists between women’s financial knowledge when compared to men, not just in the United States but throughout the world. Women tend to live longer than men but are less likely to have investment plans, Mahdavi said. Women are also more likely to move into and out of the workforce to raise families, presenting more of a challenge for them to develop steady savings habits, she said. The evening’s conversation will highlight the importance of understanding one’s own financial picture and needs for retirement or other financial circumstances. “Women seem to be moving more slowly than men who are investing," said Dr. Mahdavi. "It's not that they can't do it, but there's a psychology in society that seems to get in their way."

As a proud sponsor Catamount Wealth Management has been committed to financial literacy via the firm’s Conversations With Women initiative providing workshops and events to help women gain confidence and take action in their finances. “We invite the community to come participate in this informative and important discussion that allows women to put their financial anxieties to rest” said Laurie Stefanowicz, Managing Partner at Catamount Wealth Management.

The program will take place on April 30th from 6:30pm to 8pm at The Westport Library and is free and open to anyone in the community. For additional details, visit www.westportlibrary.org
