STAMFORD, CT - The Young Mariners Foundation will celebrate its 15th anniversary with a fundraising gala at the Stamford Yacht Club on Thursday May 10 from 6-9pm. Cocktails, light supper, dessert and coffee will be served. There will be a raffle for a Hobie kayak plus silent and live auctions featuring a week’s stay in a beach resort home, a game in the NY Yankees box, a personal tour of NBC studios in NYC, a jazz evening at the Café Carlyle in NYC, Jimmy Fallon tickets, a fly fishing day, golf outings and more.
Founding board member, Skip Raymond, will be honored for his vision and dedicated service to the foundation. A life-long sailor, Mr. Raymond was Commodore of the Stamford Yacht Club when the program began and is past President of Hathaway, Reiser and Raymond, Inc., a sailmaker and rigging company in Stamford.
Connecticut has the largest achievement gap of any state. Using sailing as a team-oriented, hands-on learning vehicle, YMF’s programs improve the academic performance of low income kids. Since 1997, foundation programs have helped almost 2,000 middle school children do better in school and in life through after school and summer programs. Past participants have demonstrated:
- Increased comprehension in science (45%), math (21%), and social studies (28%);
- Greater confidence and the ability to work as a team with peers and adults;
- Ability to solve problems and apply new ideas and information;
- A respect for themselves and others and the natural environment.
Tickets are $150 per person. Sponsorships and program ads are also available.
