Young adults dive into work at the Mystic Aquarium

Synergy Center Corporation, partnered with the Sea Research Foundation, is offering Social Species from Sea to Me at the Mystic Aquarium this fall beginning September 20. Social Species, a one-of-a-kind social skills learning opportunity in Southeastern Connecticut for youth ages 14-18, focuses on building the skills necessary to navigate high school and beyond.

Social Species is designed for youth who present social deficits. Non-disabled and high functioning disabled participants are guided by qualified, professional staff through activities that explore topics such as how to obtain and maintain high school-level jobs, hands-on learning of social skills necessary for success in the workplace, social activities outside of school. The program touches on the skills necessary for jobs in retail, catering, education, security and maintenance.

The fall session of Social Species begins September 20 and will be held for 7 weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4-5 pm at the Mystic Aquarium. For more information or to register, visit connectwithsynergy.com. Discounts are available for Aquarium members and consecutive class registrants.

Synergy Center Corporation was formed in 2009 by Brian Armstrong and Kate O’Boyle to help individuals with disabilities and weakened health conditions make quality connections with themselves, their community and their world. With more than 30 years combined experience in special education, general education and guidance, Armstrong and O’Boyle are dedicated to helping people of all ages receive respite and relief in the form of play, relaxation, learning and interacting in a safe, healthy environment.
