Plus Favorite Holiday Songs From The 1940s When the Edgerton Center for the Performing Arts (ECPA) at Sacred Heart University presents The 1940s Radioland Christmas Show it will mark the first time-ever partnering between ECPA and Stamford Center for the Arts (SCA) in Stamford, Connecticut. ECPA's The 1940s Radioland Christmas Show opens with a live stage re-creation of an old-time radio show It's A Wonderful Life, adapted from Frank Capra's film classic by Bridgeport's own Joe Landry with live music and direction by Kevin Connors of Westport. The show, with additional dialogue by Joe Landry and musical staging by Maureen Hamill, will also feature Hamill, Mary Richard, Kerry Lambert, Bob Fallen and Bob Filipowich with musical director/pianist Mark Cherry singing favorite holiday songs in the style and harmonies of the Andrews Sisters. It's A Wonderful Life, co-produced this season by SCA and ECPA, is a family holiday celebration of the lives and dreams of "ordinary" American citizens, who tried the best they could to do the right thing for themselves and their neighbors. Audiences have found that this live stage production of It's A Wonderful Life is as life affirming as the film. The ensemble cast of five professional (Actors' Equity) actors, in period costumes, re-creates the characters with a reverence and respect commanded by audiences who have come to love them in this classic holiday film jewel. The five professional (Actors' Equity) cast features Michael C. O'Day, Amy Russ, Jim Schilling, Shorey Walker and D. Matt Worley. The setting is a radio studio where the cast portrays over fifty characters as well as creates the show's live sound effects and pauses for live "on air" commercials. It's Christmas eve 1946 in Bedford Falls and the WBFR Playhouse of the Air is presenting the radio play It's A Wonderful Life, the story of George Bailey, a young American, an everyman. His dreams of traveling to far-off lands are thwarted by a deep and strong feeling of responsibility to his family's Building and Loan Association. The Bailey B&L is the only thing standing between Bedford Falls and the greed of Henry F. Potter, the avaricious local banker. After a series of unfortunate events George begins to lose hope, and in despair, he is ready to throw his life away until Clarence, his guardian angel, shows him what Bedford Falls would have been like had he never been born, and what it really means to "live." Director Kevin Connors' SCA credits include Babes in Toyland (book, new music and lyrics), Bah Humbug (writer/director), the Gala Re-Opening of the Palace Theatre starring Louise Pitre, James Naughton, Joan Rivers, the Stamford Symphony and Skitch Henderson (director), and last season's critically-acclaimed production of The Fantasticks (director). A favorite actress/singer of regional audiences, Maureen Hamill has performed on the stage of the ECPA in such solo cabaret shows as Broadway Moments, Cabaret Diaries and Tube Time in addition to productions of Jacque Brel….., Jerry's Girls and Man of LaMancha. Joe Landry's plays, Eve & Co., Beautiful, Hollywood Babylon and Numb, have been produced across the country. His other adaptations include Reefer Madness and Death in Venice. He is currently writing Wally Cleaver's Pajama Party, a new play, and is in pre-production for "The Wicked Stage," a short film.
