Bobby Valentine, Margaret Carlson and Anita McCall present the check that will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford's programs as a result from funds raised from the RFR 5K Corporate Run/Walk this year
After a week of almost constant rain, the weather cleared up a few minutes before the starting gun of the annual RFR 5K Corporate Run/Walk, benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford.

Hundreds of runners took to the races at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, 2011, in what has become an annual staple in Stamford.

This year, sponsors raised much-needed $126,000 to support the programs and activities of the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford. Adding the donations from the event entry fee, the total going to the club is about $166 thousand.

At the start line, Margaret Carlson and Anita McCall, from RFR Realty, the presenting sponsor of the event, along with Stamford Public Safety Director Bobby Valentine, thanked the participants and sponsors for their contributions.

Geoffrey Williams was first at the finish line with an impressive 16:04 minutes, translating to a pace of 5:11 minutes per mile. Among the women, first came in Sharon Lemberger at the lightning fast 17:47 minutes, amounting to a pace of 5:44 minutes per mile.

1598 runners and walkers finished the race, according to the official scoring system.
