Blue Crabs continue to overpower Bridgeport

Bridgeport, CT – May 14th – The Bridgeport Bluefish lost their fourth consecutive game Wednesday night as they fell to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-1. The loss drops Bridgeport back to .500 on the year at 9-9 while the Blue Crabs improve to 11-7.

Southern Maryland starter Jeff Farnsworth (1-0) kept the Bluefish hitters at bay all evening, looking strong over his six and two-thirds innings allowing one run on five hits while striking out three and walking four. Derrick DePriest worked a perfect ninth for his fourth save of the year.

Rafael Bergstrom continues to be haunted by the long ball this season, giving up another crucial home run that helped pad the Blue Crabs lead. John Ramistella's fourth inning two-run homer gave Southern Maryland a 4-0 lead. That would be all the run support they needed as Farnsworth and the Blue Crabs bullpen shut things down from there. Bergstrom (0-1) is charged with the loss going six innings and allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out five and walking two.

Luis Lopez continues to prove why he is leading Bridgeport in hitting. The third baseman went 2-3 with a double, scoring the only Bluefish run on the evening. Henry Mateo also added a two-hit night.

The Bluefish look to salvage the last game of the series on Thursday when starter Carlos Castillo will face Adam Johnson of Southern Maryland.
