Blue Crabs crab-walk over Bluefish

The Bridgeport Bluefish pitching staff had trouble finding the strike zone Tuesday night as they allowed a season-high 11 walks in a 10-2 loss to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The result breaks the two teams tie for second place in the division, with Bridgeport falling to 9-8 on the year.

The Tim Drew (2-1) that threw an eight inning two hit gem last week was not the same pitcher that took the mound for the ‘Fish tonight. The Bluefish starter lasted three innings and allowed eight runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out two. Southern Maryland starter John Halama (2-0) picked up the win, going seven innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

The Blue Crabs broke things open with a six-run fourth inning to give them an 8-1 lead. Their first eight batters of the inning reached base safely while three extra base knocks helped plate the runs. Eric Crozier went three-for-five on the night with three RBIs for the Blue Crabs.

Ryan Bear added two RBIs to his season total on the evening. The Bluefish outfielder hit a sacrifice fly in the third and a solo home run in the sixth to provide Bridgeport with their two runs.

The ‘Fish look to break their three game losing streak when Rafael Bergstrom will take the hill on Wednesday against Jeff Farnsworth.
