Bridgeport, CT – August 4th – The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the acquisitions of catcher Luis Rodriguez and pitcher Matt Sweeney. Rodriguez joins the team after a trade with the Nashua Pride for a player to be named later while Sweeney comes from the Lancaster Barnstormers in exchange for catcher Brian Munhall.

The Los Angeles Dodgers signed Rodriguez as a nondrafted free agent in 1991. The veteran catcher brings 15 seasons of professional baseball experience to Bridgeport including eight stints at the AAA level. The 34-year old hit .211 in 48 games with the Pride in 2008 while throwing out 17 of 33 runners attempting to steal.

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Sweeney in the 11th round of the 2001 draft. The right-hander saw time mostly at the single-A level with 14 games in two stints with AA Reading. With the Bears this season, the 25-year old posted a 6.22 ERA in 20 games (72.1 innings) with 50 strikeouts before the Barnstormers acquired him via trade last week.

The Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball Club, a charter team in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, plays its home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, located off Exit 27 of I-95 on the corner of Broad Street and South Frontage Road in Bridgeport. 2008 season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 203-345-4800.
