Tam, 37, was signed as a nondrafted free agent by the New York Mets in 1993. He worked his way up to the AAA level where he posted a 1.83 record in 45 relief appearances in 1998 before being called up to the Major Leagues, making 15 appearances for the Mets that year. In 1999 Tam split time between the Mets and the Cleveland Indians appearing in 10 more games. Tam signed on with the Oakland Athletics in 2000, where he posted back-to-back 70 game seasons. In 2000 Tam pitched in 85.2 innings and posted a 2.63 ERA with 46 strikeouts and three saves. He followed that up with a 3.01 ERA in 74.2 innings pitched with 44 strikeouts and three saves in 2001. From there Tam bounced between the Majors and AAA with Oakland in the 2002 and the Toronto Blue Jays in 2003. Tam made his Atlantic League debut in 2007 with the Road Warriors. He threw 14 innings of work while striking out 12 and walking one in 13 appearances with a 0-1 record. Tam brings a career 3.23 minor league ERA to Bridgeport.
