Bridgewater, NJ – The Bridgeport Bluefish defeated the Somerset Patriots 7-4 at Commerce Bank Ballpark on Sunday evening to complete the three-game sweep.

The Bluefish took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Second baseman Henry Mateo singled and scored on a two-run home run by left fielder Branden Florence (6). Right fielder Ryan Bear singled, third baseman Jay Caligiuri drew a walk, and center fielder Steve Doetsch followed with an RBI double. Shortstop Wilson Batista then hit a two-run single to plate Caligiuri and Doetsch.

Somerset got on the board with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Left fielder Michael Ryan doubled and scored on an RBI single by third baseman Matt Hagen to make the score 5-1.

The Patriots cut into the lead with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning on an error to make the score 5-2.

Somerset closed the gap to 5-4 with two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Designated hitter Josh Pressley hit a lead off solo home run (17) to right field. Hagen then singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Vito Chiaravalloti.

Bridgeport added insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning. Mateo singled and stole second base. After designated hitter Luis Lopez was hit by a pitch and replaced by pinch runner Matt Pike, Mateo scored on an error that allowed Hoorelbeke to reach safely. Caliguiri drove in Lopez with an RBI single for a 7-4 lead.

Bridgeport starter Rafael Bergstrom (5-5) picked up the win, allowing two runs, one earned, on seven hits in seven innings pitched. Patriots starter Aaron Fultz (1-3) suffered the loss, allowing five earned runs on eight hits and eight strikeouts in five innings pitched. Eddy Ramos earned his tenth save of the season for Bridgeport.
