Stamford, CT - Chelsea Piers Connecticut (CPCT) Elite Squash Program is thrilled to announce that three members of its Elite Squash Program advanced to the semi-finals of the US Junior Open Championships, held at Yale University in New Haven, CT.

Kayley Leonard of Harrison (GU19), Marina Stefanoni of Darien (GU13) and Nina Mital of West Harrison (GU11) all advanced through an international field of 800 players to the semi-finals of their respective age groups. All three girls began training at Chelsea Piers Connecticut when the facility opened July 2012.

Nina advanced to the finals and fell in five games to Sana Mohamed of Egypt, while Kayley was defeated by current US National Champion, Sabrina Sobhy in three games. Marina narrowly lost to Dina Soledadd Anguiano of Mexico, in 4 games, finishing 3rd overall.

“We are incredibly excited for the girls and proud of their performances. We had many other players in the various different draws that also competed exceptionally well,” commented Natalie Grainger, Director of Squash at Chelsea Piers Connecticut. “To see the girls rise to the occasion in such a huge tournament is incredibly satisfying. My goal when I started at Chelsea Piers Connecticut was to create a training environment for kids to be motivated, improve and enjoy the sport, and it’s very fulfilling eighteen months later to see this coming to fruition.”
