A night after clinching the Freedom Division’s First Half championship, the York Revolution fell to the Bridgeport Bluefish 6-2 in front of 5,011 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium. The Revs will enjoy two more nights at home before heading into the All-Star Break, including Sunday’s 4th of July game at 6:30 p.m., which will feature the biggest fireworks show the stadium has ever hosted.

Scott Grimes launched a first-inning leadoff homerun to kickstart things for the Revs. Enohel Polanco followed by taking a four-pitch walk, and Erold Andrus doubled to right. Polanco scored when right fielder Danny Putnam threw wildly back into the infield, and the Revs had a 2-0 lead before an out was made.

Bridgeport starter Kevin Mannix (8-3) settled in, however, to retire the next 10-in-a-row, and did not allow another run through six innings, before turning it over to the bullpen to close out his victory.

Revs starter Corey Thurman, meanwhile was outstanding through five innings. He struck out the side in the first, and allowed just three hits into the sixth (two infield singles and a bloop). He allowed three runs in the sixth inning, however, after nearly being out of the inning on a couple of close pitches. Wily Mo Pena’s two-run double to right field tied it, with the go-ahead run scoring as Andrus’ throw back toward the infield bounced away for an error.

Thurman (6-4) was an out away from allowing just three runs through seven, but allowed a three-run homer to Danny Putnam, before finishing his season-high seven innings of work. He struck out a Revs’ season-best eight, while walking only two. Just four of his six runs allowed were earned runs.

Notes: Revs manager Andy Etchebarren was ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the bottom of the sixth inning. Bob Zimmermann will square off against Matt Pike as the series continues on Saturday night at 7 p.m. for the Second Annual Bike Night and pregame Parade of Chrome. Gates open at 6 p.m. There will be FREE motorcycle parking along Arch Street.
