Waldorf, MD - An RBI single to center by Casey Benjamin in the twelfth inning, against Matt Pike (1-5), led to the defeat of the Bridgeport Bluefish (12-11, 43-50) by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (14-9, 44-49) by a score of 1-0 at Regency Furniture Stadium on Tuesday. The Bluefish are 5-6 against the Blue Crabs this season.

Bridgeport starter, Raymar Diaz, did not factor in the decision as the righthanded hurler delivered six innings of scoreless baseball. Diaz struck out six while allowing five hits and two walks. Jesse English, Julio DePaula, Rommie Lewis and Pike combined to throw five-and-two-thirds frames and gave up one run on six hits while fanning seven with Pike suffering the loss.

Blue Crabs starter, Nick Green, tossed seven scoreless frames while surrendering ten hits and fanned three. Three relievers combined to provide five shutout innings on four hits and three strikeouts with Jim Ed Warden (3-7) picking up the victory in delivering three of those five frames.

There was only one extra base hit on the night by either team. It came in the final inning from Blue Crabs outfielder Jeremy Owens who picked up four hits on the night. Bridgeport’s Prentice Redman picked up three hits on the evening. Brock Peterson, Luis Lopez, Luis Rodriguez , and Shea Hillenbrand each collected two hits in the contest for the road team while Brian Barton and Christian Lopez did the same for the home squad with the latter Lopez scoring the winning run.
