Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Hector Carrasco. Carrasco joins to the Bluefish for his third season in the Atlantic League and 22nd of professional baseball.

“It’s great to add a veteran arm to our bullpen this late in the season,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “Hector will be an important asset as we vie for the playoffs.”

The former Major Leaguer spent time earlier this year with Minatitlan of the Mexican League. In 20 appearances, he posted a 2.53 ERA with 10 saves and 15 strikeouts over 21.1 innings of work. Carrasco made his Atlantic League debut with Bridgeport in 2009 and would later pitch for the Long Island Ducks and Newark Bears.

The 41-year-old last pitched in the Major Leagues during the 2007 season as a member of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Over his 12-year big league career, the Dominican native has spent time with Cincinnati, Kansas City, Minnesota, Boston, Baltimore, Washington and Los Angeles. He has recorded 44 wins and 19 saves over 647 appearances (10 starts). Carrasco owns a 4.00 ERA with 662 strikeouts in 832.1 innings pitched, while holding opposing hitters to a .251 batting average. His best season in the Majors came in 2005 as a member of the Nationals. The righthander posted a 5-4 record with a 2.04 ERA and two saves in 64 appearances, while recording a career-high 75 strikeouts and holding batters to a .193 average.

To make room on the roster, the Bluefish have placed infielder Felix Molina on the Inactive List.
