Following Sunday’s second half Liberty Division championship-clinching victory by the Long Island Ducks, Atlantic League Executive Director Joe Klein announced the decision to have a one-game playoff decide the final remaining postseason spot in the 2011 playoffs.
Wild Card contenders Bridgeport and Southern Maryland will face one another on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to determine who faces the Ducks in the Liberty Division’s Championship Series beginning on Wednesday evening at the Ducks’ Bethpage Ballpark.
“We are looking forward to this opportunity to win a playoff game in our ballpark on Tuesday night,” says Bluefish manager Bob Goughan. “Hopefully this is a step toward larger playoff aspirations.”
All tickets for this one-game playoff are only $5. To purchase tickets visit The Ballpark at Harbor Yard Box Office, call (203) 345-4800 or go to www.bridgeportbluefish.com.
The decision to play the one-off showdown was made with the agreement of both clubs involved and was necessitated by the recent inclement weather from Hurricane Irene that led to the cancellation of five Blue Crab home games.
