Bridgeport, CT - The world was deeply saddened to have lost Nelson Mandela on Thursday, who was such a great leader and inspirational character to many around the globe. He was a tremendous influence in the sports community as well, which is why the Bridgeport Bluefish will recognize Mandela during the teams 2014 season by placing a “remembrance” in the stadium at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard to honor this great individual.

“Nelson Mandela was able to help and change so many lives during his time here,” says Bluefish general manager Ken Shepard. “He inspired peace and well being through many avenues, including the world of sports. We hope to celebrate his life’s work him and help influence every person that walks inside the ballpark through his powerful thinking.”

This remembrance will include Nelson Mandela’s famous quote: “Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire. It has the power to unite people in a way that little else does. Sport can create hope where there was only despair.” It will be revealed on Opening Day, April 30, 2014 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit
