Bridgeport, CT - Bridgeport defeated the York Revolution 2-1 Friday evening at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Hunter Jones shook off a rough first outing by allowing one run in five and two thirds innings pitched in the no-decision.
However, it was Austin Krum who stole the show. He accounted for both of the runs for the Bluefish. In the third inning he reached on an error; then stole second, moved to third on a bunt by Luis Rodriguez before scoring on a ground out from Brandon Chaves.
Krum also made the play of the year so far for the ‘Fish in the field. He came out of know where in left field to make a diving grab that robbed extra bases and prevented a run to score in the seventh frame. Krum delivered the winning RBI on a sac fly in the bottom half of the inning that scored Luis Lopez.
The win went to Adam Carr (1-0) who held the Rev’s scoreless with the bases loaded after Jones left the game in the sixth inning. Matt Sommo struck out two batters in the eighth inning before Jeff Fulchino entered in the ninth and picked up his league best fourth save of the year. York pitcher Chris Cody (1-1) suffered the loss, allowing two runs (one earned) over seven innings of work.
The Bridgeport Bluefish will be home tomorrow with a fireworks extravaganza after the game. Michael Colla (1-0) gets the start for the Bluefish against York’s Nick Green (0-0).
