The Bridgeport Bluefish of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball announced the acquisition of pitchers Mark Romanczuk and Michael Bille. Both young pitchers come to Bridgeport from the St. Paul Saints of the independent American Association.

Romanczuk, 24, is in his third season of professional baseball. He began his professional career with the Missoula Osprey (Arizona Diamondbacks advanced rookie league) in 2005 and made 13 starts. He struck out 59 hitters in 61.1 innings with a 4.55 ERA. Last season with the South Bend Silver Hawks (Diamondbacks single-A), the left-hander appeared in 33 games (six starts) and recorded a 4-3 record. He posted a 3.73 ERA and struck out 59 hitters in 72.1 innings. Entering the 2008 campaign Romanczuk has 118 strikeouts in 133.2 innings.

Bille, 26, has four seasons of professional baseball experience. The righty started his career with the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins single-A) in 2005, making 18 appearances with a 3.45 ERA and 25 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. Bille posted two solid seasons with the Evansville Otters (Frontier League) in 2006 and 2007. Serving mainly as the team’s closer, he recorded 20 saves in his 41 games played with a 2.01 ERA in his first season of independent baseball. In 2007, he posted 1.70 ERA and recorded 15 saves in 38 appearances. Heading into this season, Bille has a career 2.68 ERA with 112 strikeouts in 124.1 innings.
With the Saints this year, Romanczuk went 3-4 with a 4.34 ERA in 14 games (10 starts). Bille was 4-2 with two saves and a 3.42 ERA in his 55.1 innings of relief.
