Bridgeport, CT – The Bridgeport Bluefish fell to the Somerset Patriots in the first game of a doubleheader by a score of 14-3. The Pats jumped out to an early seven-run lead in the top of the first and the 'Fish found themselves unable to recover. The Somerset win snaps a three-game winning streak for Bridgeport as Tommy John's crew falls to 27-26 in the second half. Bluefish starter Barry Hertzler (8-9) failed to make it out of the first inning as the Pats roughed him up early on. Somerset leadoff man Sean Smith went two-for-two in the first inning alone with a double, run and an RBI. Josh Pressley drove in two in the inning and the bottom of the Pats lineup remained relentless. Hertzler gave up seven runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk in his third of an inning. The Bluefish answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Jay Caligiuri knocked in two with his bases-loaded double to bring his team within four. Somerset scored twice in the top of the second and four more times in the top of the fifth to put the game out of reach for the Bluefish. Jim Magrane (7-11) pitched well after the rough first inning to pick up the victory. The Somerset starter went five innings and allowed three runs (two earned) to score on seven hits and two walks with five strikeouts. Pats outfielder Mike Lockwood finished the afternoon two-for-four with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Henry Mateo (double) and Alex Prieto continued to perform well in the series, both with two hits and a run in the game. The Bluefish look to recover in game two when they turn to Matt Sweeney (3-6). The Patriots will send Chris Buglovsky (0-1) to the hill in the second half of the twin bill.
