Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Daryl Jones. Jones makes his way to the Park City for his first year in the Atlantic League and ninth of professional baseball after being acquired from independent San Angelo of the North American League for a player to be named later.
“Daryl is a solid young player,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “He has a good eye for the ball at the plate and is a tremendous defensive first baseman.”
Last season with the Colts, Jones batted a career-high .345 with 22 doubles, 11 stolen bases and a 1.052 on-base plus slugging percentage. The slugger also paced the league with 28 home runs and 90 RBI. The 25-year-old was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2004 amateur draft and spent four years with the organization, reaching as high as Single-A. He would then join the independent ranks for the next four seasons. Over the course of 610 career minor league games, the California-native owns a .272 batting average with 138 doubles, 78 home runs, 372 runs scored, 355 RBI and 69 stolen bases in 2,316 at-bats.
