Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish (6-4) defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (4-6), 4-3 at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard on Monday night.
The Bluefish scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI single by Brandon Boggs, which plated Sean Burroughs who had singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch by starter Wade Korpi. Bridgeport added one run in the fourth on a solo home run by centerfielder James Simmons and added two in the bottom of the fourth on a two more solo home runs by Brandon Boggs and J.R. Towles. The Blue Crabs then answered with three runs in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Jose Julio Ruiz, which was followed by two more RBI base hits by Brian Barton and Jake Opitz.
Bridgeport starter Julio Rodriguez (1-0) picked up the win after throwing five innings of no-hit baseball with four strikeouts, but was removed from the game after reaching a pitch count of 87. His counterpart, Wade Korpi (0-1) suffered the loss after going two and two thirds innings allowing the first run of the game. Winston Abreu picked up his fourth save after pitching a perfect ninth frame.
For the ‘Fish, Boggs (2-for-4, 2 RBI, HR) led the way offensively.
Bridgeport starts a three game series in York, Pennsylvania beginning tomorrow night at 6:35 p.m. and then travel to Camden for a three game set starting on Friday.
