Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Brandon Chaves. Chaves returns for his second stint with the Bluefish during his 12th season of professional baseball.

“It’s great to have Brandon back with the club,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “He was a tremendous asset to our team last year both in the field and at the plate.”

Chaves most recently spent time with the Somerset Patriots this year, appearing in four games. The infielder began the season in with Rimini of the Italian Baseball League. With Rimini, he batted .351 with nine doubles, three triples, two home runs, 20 RBI and 43 runs scored.

The Hawaii native has reached as high as the Triple-A level with Durham of the International League in 2009. Chaves began his minor league career in 2000 as a member of the Pirates organization, and also spent time with Cleveland and Tampa Bay affiliates. His best season as a professional came in 2003 with Lynchburg (A, Pirates) of the Carolina League. In 121 appearances, the 32-year-old batted .268 and set career-highs in hits (116), runs scored (62), doubles (23), triples (6), and at-bats (443).

Brandon was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 10th round of the 2000 amateur draft.
