Bridgeport's five-run third inning erased a 2-1 Long Island edge. Both Ryan Bear and Branden Florence drilled two-run doubles in the inning off Ducks starter Manny Ulloa (5-6). The 'Fish tacked on three insurance runs in the sixth inning with a two-run bomb from Henry Mateo and Bear's second double of the evening. Florence (two RBIs, run, stolen base) and Bear (two doubles, three RBIs, run) each recorded three hits to lead the Bluefish offense. After 45 relief appearances this season, Franklin Perez (6-3) made his second solid start for Bridgeport. The former set-up man allowed three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in his six innings of work. Long Island picked up their early lead with two runs in the first. Juan Francia scored on a wild pitch from Perez and Edgardo Alfonzo drove in Ray Navarrete with an infield single. Navarrete gave his team life in the ninth when he smoked a three-run home run down the left field line to pull his team within three. Bridgeport closer Eddy Ramos cut down the attempted rally by retiring the final three batters to pick up his 20th save of the year. Ulloa suffered the loss in his six frames of work. The hurler gave up nine runs on 14 hits and one walk with six strikeouts. The Bluefish look to pick up their third consecutive victory tomorrow afternoon to close out the 2008 season. Barry Hertzler (9-10) gets the start for Bridgeport and opposes Jose Paniagua (4-3) in the season finale.
