Bridgeport, CT - The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced that Bridgeport Bluefish outfielder Steve Moss, infielders Wes Bankston and Andres Perez, and pitchers Paul Oseguera and Juan Rincon have been named to the 2011 Atlantic League Postseason All-Star Team. Moss and Bankston were honored on the First Team, while Perez, Oseguera, and Rincon were named to the Second Team.
“We are very pleased to hear that all five have been named to the team and wish nothing but the best” said general manager Bob Goughan. “They were strong contributors to the team all season long and we are happy that they have received these honors.”
Bankston was a Player of the Year candidate all season long, leading the Atlantic League with 95 RBI. He also ranked second with 39 doubles and 64 extra-base hits, and third with 25 home runs and 134 hits. Wes set new Bluefish single-season records in doubles, passing Luis Lopez (36) from 2008, and extra-base hits, overtaking Oreste Marrero (59) from 2001.
Moss claims First Team honors for the second consecutive year. The outfielder appeared in 120 games for the ‘Fish, recording a .295 batting average with 19 home runs, 70 RBI and 82 runs scored. He ranked fourth in the Atlantic League with 27 doubles and 50 extra-base hits.
Perez posted a team-leading .313 batting average, which was also good for 10th in the Atlantic League. During his first year in the Park City, the infielder recorded 15 home runs, 54 RBI and 57 runs scored and also set career-highs with 106 hits and 23 doubles.
Oseguera returned to Bridgeport for a second straight year and contributed another solid campaign. The southpaw collected 11 wins and 102 strikeouts, which ranked third and fifth in the Atlantic League, respectively. In 20 starts, Paul also posted a 4.53 ERA, which was second among lefthanded Atlantic League hurlers with a minimum of 90 innings pitched.
Rincon earns Second Team honors during his Atlantic League debut with the Bluefish. In 42 appearances, the closer accumulated 23 saves (second in the Atlantic League) with a 2.98 ERA and 51 strikeouts over the course of 45.1 innings of work.
