In what is already a record-breaking season for the Bridgeport Bluefish, second baseman/outfielder Henry Mateo is adding to the list of new franchise marks. With 124 games played so far this season, the former Major Leaguer has 162 base hits and 94 runs scored in 506 at-bats with 52 multi-hit games, all of which set new single-season franchise records.

Mateo’s 2008 campaign is rivaling the record-setting 2003 season of former Bluefish Rolo Avila. Avila had 160 hits and 50 multi-hit games in 487 at-bats, all of which set franchise milestones that stood until this season. The centerfielder still holds the Bluefish record for longest hitting streak (23 games in 2003) and stolen bases (42 in 2002).

Mateo’s record for runs scored broke the previous mark of 93 set by Nick Ortiz in 2007. Despite owning the new mark, Mateo has Ryan Bear hot on his heels with 93 runs scored this season.
Mateo is currently amongst league leaders in several of these categories as he continues to have a career-year. The switch-hitter is third in the league in hits and triples (6), fifth in runs scored and currently leading the Atlantic League with 33 stolen bases.

A native of the Dominican Republic, Mateo joins teammates Luis Lopez and Jesse Hoorelbeke in their record-breaking campaigns. Lopez set a new Bluefish record for doubles in a season (36) while Hoorelbeke shattered his own RBI mark (106).
