The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball recently announced that Bluefish pitcher Paul Oseguera has been named August pitcher of the month. “We are very pleased to hear that Paul has received this honor,” says Bluefish general manager Bob Goughan. “He has been a strong contributor all season long and is well deserving of this accolade.”
Oseguera takes home the Pitcher of the month award after posting a 3-0 record with a 2.14 ERA in 33.2 innings of work. The lefthander also recorded 36 strikeouts while holding opposing batters to a .203 batting average.
In 18 starts this year with the Bluefish, Paul has recorded a 4.13 ERA in 104.2 innings pitched and ranks second in the Atlantic League with 11 wins and third with 96 strikeouts.
2011 marks Oseguera’s second season in the Park City. Last year, the southpaw was off to a scorching start with the Bluefish, picking up three victories in six starts while posting a 2.36 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 42 innings of work. His impressive performance led to the Oakland Athletics purchasing his contract in May. Oseguera reported to Single-A Stockton of the California League before he finished the year back in Bridgeport.
The 27-year-old made his professional debut in 2006 with Single-A Salem-Kaizer of the Northwest League. He spent four seasons in the Giants organization, reaching as high as Double-A in 2008 as a member of the Connecticut Defenders. In 123 career minor league appearances (90 starts), the California native owns a 3.95 ERA with a 40-29 record and 535 strikeouts in 588 innings pitched.
