New Britain returns home on April 16 for a seven game homestand that features plenty of baseball action, prospects, promotions, and the first visit from the Red Sox AA Affiliate

New Britain, CT – The Rock Cats’ first homestand of the 2009 season – from April 16 to 22 – packs plenty of punch into seven games.

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double A farm club of the Toronto Blue Jays, arrive in town for a four-game series on April 16. The Fisher Cats’ roster boasts three of Toronto’s top 10 prospects – 1B David Cooper (#5), LHP Marc Rzepczynski (#9), and INF Brad Emaus (#10). The homestand closes out with a three-game set against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox.

The Sea Dogs feature seven of Boston's top 30 prospects, led by 1B Lars Anderson, the #1 prospect in the organization and the 2008 Red Sox Minor League Offensive Player of the Year). The six remaining top prospects include: CF Josh Reddick (rated # 5), RHP Junichi Tazawa (# 7), SS Argenis Diaz (# 17), RHP Richie Lentz (# 26), LHP Felix Doubront (# 27), and C Mark Wagner (# 30). Diaz, Doubront, Tazawa – a 22-year-old who signed with Boston as a non-drafted free agent in 2008 out of Japan – and Wagner are members of the Red Sox 40-man roster.

And, of course, the first seven games at New Britain Stadium provide fans with the first look at a Rock Cats team that features some of the Minnesota Twins’ top prospects. This year’s squad includes C Wilson Ramos, ranked by Baseball America as the third-best prospect in the organization, and 3B Danny Valencia (#5).
