Bridgeport, CT - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of pitcher Josh Schmidt. Schmidt comes to Bridgeport after appearing in two contests for Somerset this season.
“Josh is a well-rounded pitcher with a very impressive resume,” says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. “He is a welcome addition to our bullpen.”
Last year, the 30-year-old pitched in Double-A Jacksonville as well as Triple-A New Orleans with the Marlins organization. He compiled a 3.58 ERA in 43 total appearances, striking out 56 batters in 55.1 innings of work.
The right hander was originally drafted in the 15th round of the 2005 drafted by the New York Yankees and reached as high as Triple-A with Scranton in 2010. Over the course of eight professional seasons, the University of the Pacific alum holds a 2.66 ERA with a 41-23 record (.641 winning percentage) including 561 strikeouts, 46 saves and a 1.18 WHIP in 490.2 innings pitched.
